Sleep Service for Children with Additional Needs

Gentle, neuro-affirming sleep support for children and families
About This Service

Sleep challenges are common in childhood and they can affect the whole family’s wellbeing. At Makewell Health and Wellness Clinic in Milton Keynes, we provide a compassionate, tailored service to help your child (and you) get the rest you need.

Every child and family is unique – which is why our Children’s Sleep Service is flexible, personalised, and built around your child’s needs and strengths.

Many children experience difficulties such as:

  • Needing a parent or carer with them to fall asleep
  • Waking frequently during the night
  • Finding it hard to settle at bedtime
  • Experiencing night terrors or vivid dreams
  • Waking very early in the morning

These are not signs of failure. They are common childhood experiences, especially for neurodivergent children, and we know they can feel exhausting for parents and carers too.

We understand that sleep looks different for every child. Our nurse specialists take a whole-family approach, recognising your child’s individuality and avoiding a “one-size-fits-all” method.

  • Strengths-based and inclusive – We focus on what already works well and build from there.
  • Neuro-affirming – Whether your child is neurodivergent (ADHD, autism, sensory differences) or not, our approach adapts to them.
  • Holistic support – Looking at daily routines, environment, emotional regulation, and family dynamics, not just sleep itself.
  • Safe prescribing where appropriate – If medication may help, our nurse specialists (who are prescribers) can manage this as part of your care journey.
  • Experienced nurse specialists with prescribing qualifications
  • Inclusive, neuro-affirming care for children of all needs
  • Combination of practical strategies and clinical expertise
  • Support delivered with warmth, compassion, and understanding
