For the most accurate results, please follow these guidelines

  • Timing: Take your sample between 6–10am
  • Health status: Take your test when any short-term illness has resolved

Before testing

  • Avoid heavy exercise for 48 hours
  • Avoid fatty foods for 8 hours before your test (fasting not required)
  • Hydration: Stay well hydrated

Supplements

  • Avoid vitamins/minerals for 24 hours
  • Avoid biotin for 48 hours (check with your doctor if prescribed)
  • Avoid vitamin B12 for 2 weeks prior (seek medical advice if prescribed)

Medications

  • Take thyroid medication after your test where possible
  • If testing later in the day, leave 6 hours after levothyroxine (12 hours for DTE/T3)
  • Inform us if taking lithium or amiodarone
