For the most accurate results, please follow these guidelines

  • Timing: Take your sample between 6–10am

Cycle timing

  • Ideally test 2–5 days after the start of your period (day 3 preferred)
  • Can be taken at any time if you do not have periods

Before testing

  • Avoid vigorous exercise or sexual activity for 48 hours
  • Avoid nipple stimulation
  • Fasting is preferable, but not essential

Hormone exposure

  • Avoid contamination from hormone gels/patches (use gloves when applying)

Medications

  • Hormonal contraception can affect results
  • Take thyroid medication after your test where possible
  • If testing later in the day, leave 6 hours after levothyroxine (12 hours for DTE/T3)
  • Inform us if taking lithium or amiodarone

Supplements

  • Avoid vitamins/minerals for 24 hours
  • Avoid biotin for 48 hours (check with your doctor if prescribed)
