Summer Update: ADHD & Autism assessments are continuing as normal. During the school holidays, some outcome letters and reports may take a little longer if we're waiting for information from schools. Thank you for your patience

Microsuction Ear Wax Removal

Clears blocked or uncomfortable ears quickly and safely
£55.00

Service Summary

Microsuction is a modern, precise method of removing built-up ear wax. Using a fine suction device alongside magnification, a nurse can see directly into the ear canal and remove wax under careful visual control, without the use of water. It’s widely regarded by ENT specialists as one of the safest and most comfortable ways to clear the ear canal, particularly where wax is hard, impacted, or where water-based methods aren’t suitable.

Details of Service

During your appointment, a nurse will examine your ear canal to assess the wax build-up before starting. A gentle suction probe is then used to carefully remove the wax, with the nurse watching a magnified screen view of your ear canal throughout to ensure the procedure is safe and comfortable. No water or pressure is used, which reduces the risk of infection and discomfort associated with older removal methods.

Once the wax has been cleared, the nurse will check the screen view again to confirm the wax has been fully removed and that the ear looks healthy, before giving you personalised aftercare advice.

Preparation and Important Information:

You will need to complete details of your medical history before your appointment.

For the best results, please follow this guidance:

Before your appointment:

  • Use olive oil drops in the affected ear(s) for 5 days beforehand to help soften the wax (unless advised otherwise)
  • Avoid inserting cotton buds or other objects into your ears
  • Let us know if you have a history of eardrum perforation, ear surgery, or recurrent ear infections
  • Let us know if you’re taking blood-thinning medication

On the day:

Your appointment will be carried out by one of our nurses and typically takes 15–30 minutes. It’s a safe, water-free procedure, though you may notice brief mild discomfort or a dizzy sensation during treatment — this is normal and settles quickly.

After your appointment:

  • Keep your ears dry for 24–48 hours
  • Avoid inserting anything into the ear canal
  • Contact us or your GP if you experience persistent pain, dizziness, discharge, or changes in hearing

Fees:

Please note the appointment fee covers the nurse’s time, assessment, and use of specialist equipment, and is payable whether or not wax removal is required or possible on the day.

Please be aware:

  • Microsuction carries a small risk of minor discomfort, dizziness (from the airflow), or slight irritation to the ear canal — this is usually brief and settles quickly
  • Rarely, there’s a small risk of minor bleeding or trauma to the ear canal or eardrum
  • If wax is very hard or impacted, more than one appointment may be needed

Additional Information:

Price is per appointment and includes examination and ear wax removal. Please be aware that if your ear wax is not softened, or is hard to remove, you may need additional appointments

Aftercare: keep ears dry for 24–48 hours following the procedure; avoid inserting anything into the ear canal. Contact us or your GP if you experience persistent pain, dizziness, discharge, or hearing changes after your appointment.

If you have any questions before your appointment, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
