Hepatitis B is a serious viral infection of the liver transmitted through contact with infected blood or bodily fluids, including through unprotected sexual contact, sharing needles or medical equipment, and from mother to baby at birth. In some cases, hepatitis B can become a chronic (long-term) infection, increasing the risk of liver cirrhosis and liver cancer. Many infected individuals have no symptoms initially, which means the virus can be unknowingly transmitted to others.
A full course of hepatitis B vaccination requires three doses. The standard schedule is doses at 0, 1, and 6 months. An accelerated schedule (0, 1, and 2 months) is available for those with upcoming travel, with a booster at 12 months to ensure long-term protection. A combined hepatitis A and B (Twinrix) vaccine is also available for those who require protection against both viruses.
The vaccine is given as an injection into the upper arm. Side effects are generally mild and may include temporary soreness, redness, or swelling at the injection site. A mild temperature or brief flu-like feeling is uncommon. Protection against protection against hepatitis B is typically very high when the full course is completed.
Hepatitis B Vaccine — £45.00 per dose (children) / £50.00 per dose (adults). Three doses are required for a full course. Please note that prices may be subject to change at short notice depending upon supplier charges.
