Strengthening School Inclusion
Growing support for SEND children, schools, and families.
At Makewell Clinic, we believe in inclusive care that reaches beyond the clinic walls, and straight into the heart of our communities. That’s why we’re proud to launch Makewell ConnectED, a dedicated and growing arm of our work, focused on empowering schools, supporting SEND children (with or without a diagnosis), and building strong partnerships with families.
Makewell ConnectED brings together our clinical expertise, therapeutic resources, and community values to offer tailored support for education settings across our region.
What We Offer (So Far)
Our support for schools and SEND families is already well underway and expanding every term. Here’s what Makewell ConnectED currently provides:
– Termly SEND Support Newsletters
Each term, we publish expert-led newsletters for schools and families, filled with practical strategies, wellbeing tips, and accessible insights to support neurodiverse children both in and out of the classroom.
– Talks for Staff, Pupils, and Families
We offer bespoke talks and workshops tailored to your audience, from teacher training on recognising neurodiversity, to peer talks for pupils, and evening sessions for parents and carers. We meet people where they are, in language they understand.
– Work Experience Opportunities
For SEND students interested in healthcare or animal care, we offer supported work experience placements. These are thoughtfully designed to offer meaningful exposure in safe, encouraging environments, opening up pathways that are too often closed to neurodivergent young people.
– Alternative Provision: Horse Sessions
For local children who may benefit from non-traditional learning environments, we offer structured horse-assisted sessions. These combine therapeutic, educational, and emotional development goals in a setting that’s calm, sensory-aware, and full of growth potential.
– And We’re Just Getting Started
Makewell ConnectED is a growing initiative. We’re actively developing new ways to partner with schools and communities, including:
- On-site or virtual SEND support consultations
- Collaborative care planning with SENCOs
- Early identification support and resources
- Toolkits for inclusive classroom practice
- Access to therapeutic services
If you’re a teacher, school leader, SENCO, or parent looking to bring more compassionate, practical and tailored SEND support into your school environment, we’d love to hear from you.
