How It Works

A small blood sample is taken from the mother at the clinic. The sample is analysed for the presence of male (Y) chromosome DNA in the mother’s bloodstream. If Y chromosome DNA is detected, the result is boy; if no Y chromosome DNA is found, the result is girl. The test is processed by a specialist laboratory and results are typically available within a few days.
