About our award-winning Mental Wealth Project at the YMCA in Milton Keynes
Our collaboration with the YMCA in Milton Keynes to offer in-house mental health services (named the Mental Wealth Project) stems from our shared commitment to supporting the well-being of young people in the community. We recognise the unique challenges faced by youth, particularly those who may be vulnerable or at risk, such as individuals accessing YMCA services.
This partnership demonstrates a proactive approach to making mental health support more accessible by meeting young people where they are. It reflects a deep understanding of the importance of early intervention and tailored services to help young people thrive emotionally, socially, and personally.

Over 60% of young people living at YMCA Milton Keynes identify as having a mental health issue. This project is funded from The National Lottery in 2023.
Our multidisciplinary team at Makewell provide these services Monday- Friday on-site at the purpose-built YMCA in Milton Keynes, which houses over 250 young people.

Both staff and residents at the YMCA are hugely engaging of this service and we offer the following there:
- 1:1 sessions with our Clinical Psychologists
- Access to weekly ‘drop in’ sessions with our Mental Health Practitioners
- ADHD / Autism screening, assessing and treatment
- Anxiety / Breath work / Sleep workshops
- Horse therapy sessions
- Drop in medication advice sessions
- Training and wellbeing for staff

We work closely with the NHS when residents require referring into or out of NHS services.
We won the ‘Support & Advice’ service of the year Award at the National YMCA Awards November 2024 for this Mental Wealth Project.
