Yellow fever is a serious viral infection spread by mosquitoes in parts of Africa, Central and South America. It can cause flu-like symptoms, jaundice (yellowing of the skin), organ failure, and can be fatal in severe cases. Vaccination provides effective protection and is recommended for travellers to certain regions. In many cases, it’s also a legal requirement for entry into countries where yellow fever is a risk or where proof of vaccination is needed for onward travel.
Makewell is an Accredited Yellow Fever Centre
As a registered Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre, we are authorised to:
- Administer the yellow fever vaccine
- Provide the International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP) required for travel
- Issue a Medical Letter of Exemption (MLoE) if the vaccine is not suitable for you on medical grounds
What to Expect
- We will ask you to fill out a form with details of your itinerary and your relevant medical history.
- You’ll have a pre-vaccine consultation with a qualified healthcare professional.
- We’ll check your travel plans and medical history to confirm if the yellow fever vaccine is appropriate.
- If suitable, you’ll receive the vaccine and we’ll issue your official vaccination certificate.
- Your protection starts 10 days after vaccination and usually lasts for life.
Book Your Appointment
If you’re planning travel to a country that requires yellow fever vaccination, book in advance to ensure you’re protected in time.
We charge a £25 consultation fee to confirm your appointment. If you go ahead with the vaccination or other treatment, this fee will be deducted from the total cost – you’ll only pay the difference.
If you need any additional vaccinations, there’s no need to book a separate appointment. Our clinicians can advise you on all recommended vaccinations during your consultation.
